Love God or hate men?

James is so full of wisdom that I’m going to cheat a bit and stretch it out over the next three days instead of two. Today is chapter 3.
8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
Verse 9 punches me in the gut every time I read it. You pray. You worship. You praise. You bless. And then with the same faculties, you yell at the driver ahead of you in traffic. You talk about other people’s problems - adding to them, because the power of death and life are in the tongue (Pr 18:21).
John writes,
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1 John 4:20)
You cannot love God and curse men. It’s one or the other. Which will you choose today?
